On Monday, May 27, 2024, the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia was visited by the delegation of the Albanian General Directorate for Industrial Property. The delegation was headed by the Director General of the Directorate Ms. Rovena Beqiraj. In addition, the meeting was attended by Ms Sonila Meka, Head of Coordination and Reporting and Analysis in the Directorate and Ms. Borana Kalemi, Project Associate of the Alsip Project and Mr. Kushtrim Shala, ICTLab Representative.
On behalf of the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia, the meeting was attended by the Director of the IPO, Mr. Vladimir Marić, Ms. Zorica Obradović, Head of the Education and Information Center in the Intellectual Property Office and Mr. Saša Zdravković, patent examiner.
The Albanian delegation came to Belgrade primarily to get acquainted with the work of our Science Technology Park. Taking into consideration that the Intellectual Property Office has long lasting and quality cooperation with the Science Technology Park in Belgrade and bearing in mind that the protection of intellectual property is constituent part of the mission of the Science Technology Park, the Albanian delegation was willing, in the framework of that visit, to also visit the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia.
The meeting passed in the pleasant atmosphere, opinions were exchanged about the most important issues of patent protection in the national offices of Serbia and Albania, but the greatest part of our conversation was dedicated to the activities of the Education and Information Centre of the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia. The Director, Mr. Vladimir Marić, at the very beginning of the meeting, acquainted the Albanian colleagues with the most important facts relating to the history of our Office, its competences and challenges it faces nowadays, as well as the latest trends in the protection of intellectual property in our country.
Ms. Zorica Obradović spoke about the activities of the Education and Information Center, our practical experiences in the work with our clients, small and medium enterprises, entrepreneurs, etc. as well as plans for the future development in that field. Mr. Saša Zdarvković also spoke about the main challenges related to intellectual property for our small and medium enterprises, as well as for our entrepreneurs.
These meetings are very useful as they deepen the feeling of belonging among the colleagues from the region and because they bring often numerous benefits for the participants in the discussion that often share the same or similar dilemmas and challenges regarding the protection of industrial property rights.
At the end of the meeting, Director Mr. Vladimir Marić took the guests from Albania to have a short walk around the building of the IPO and showed them what capacities are at the disposal of our institution. The guests were particularly interested to see the first Serbian original registers of industrial property, the first industrial property gazette and other similar documents of great historic value for intellectual property in our country.
