Ms. Aleksandra Mihailović, Asst. Director for the Patent Sector of the Intellectual Property Office is the chair of the 16th session of the Working Group for the development of the Patent Cooperation Treaty of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which will take place in Geneva from February 6-8, 2023.
The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) was adopted in 1970 in Washington, USA, for the sake of establishing more simple, efficient and economical system of international filing of patent applications (PCT system). From its very establishment, the PCT system is a great success with the continually growing number of member states and number of filed international patent applications. For the sake of permanent development of this system, in 2007, a working group has been established for the development of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) with the aim to improve the effective use of the PCT system whenever possible and to find the solutions within the existing legal framework with the introduction of changes as rarely as possible.
