Yesterday, on November 11, 2024, in Riyadh, Kingdom of the Saudi Arabia, there was a festive opening of the Diplomatic Conference for the adoption of the international Design Law Treaty. The Design Law Treaty is the international legal instrument with the purpose to harmonize and simplify at the world level the procedure of protection of industrial design. The debate on the text of the new international treaty about the protection of industrial design has lasted for quite some time, since 2005, and the Diplomatic Conference in Riyadh is the final act in the passing of this important international treaty.
At the conference, two legal texts shall be discussed:
- Draft of the Design Law Treaty;
- Regulations for the enforcement of the Design Law Treaty.
After the festive opening of the Conference where Mr. Daren Tang, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) addressed the assembly, under item 5 of the Agenda, the Plenary Assembly of the Diplomatic Conference confirmed the selection of the chairmen, deputy chairmen, as well as members of the commissions working on the elaboration of the International Design Law Treaty.
The representative of the Republic of Serbia at the Diplomatic Conference, Mr. Vladimir Marić, Director of the Intellectual Property Office, was selected for the deputy chairman of the Drafting Committee.
