In Europe, Computer programs can be protected by copyright, but not by patent. However, an invention that is implemented on computer by using software is patentable. The prerequisite is that the invention solves an objective technical problem.
This opens the possibility to increase number of patents in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) field, but also leaves potential inventors with many uncertainties.
In order to raise awareness on new developments in this exciting area, WIPO is co-organizing, together with the Estonian Patent Office, the Virtual Regional Seminar on Patentability of Computer Implemented Inventions (CII) to be held on Thursday, 8 December 2022.
The Virtual Regional Seminar aims to deepen the understanding of the role of protection of CIIs via patent systems. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn from renowned experts about patenting and licensing strategies, and experiences of the European Technology Transfer Offices.
The Seminar will be held in English on 8 December 2022, from 13.00 to 15.30.
Participants can already register.
