At the Institute for Orchards in Čačak, on April 23, 2024, a thematic session was held dedicated to the businessmen, in cooperation of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Regional Chamber of Commerce of the Regional Administrative Districts of Moravica and Raška and the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia.
The topic of the third in the serial of sessions dedicated to businessmen in the regional chambers of commerce, held in cooperation with the IPO, was the “Role of Intellectual Property in the Branding of Agricultural and Food Products”.
The participants were welcomed by the Director of the Regional Chamber of Commerce from Kraljevo, Zvonko Tufegdžić, Director of the Institute for Orchards, Darko Jevremović, Ph.D and Assistant Director of the Intellectual Property Office, Daniela Zlatić Šutic, while the session was headed by Danica Mićanović, Senior Counsellor of the Association for Plant Production and Food Industry of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.
For the representatives of economy, participants from the Institute for Orchards and the Faculty of Agronomy from Čačak, the presentations were held by the representatives from the IPO, with the focus on the protection of innovations in agriculture and food industry, protection of trademarks and indications of geographical origin.
The Director of the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Leskovac, Goran Jović, took the opportunity to make a presentation of examples from practice, connected to the protection of indications of geographical origin, like “Homemade ajvar from Leskovac” and included other signs and trademarks as well.
Mr. Jović emphasized that the region with the most numerous registered IGOs still keeps on working to protect also other well-known traditional food products from the districts of Jablanica and Pčinj, following the example of earlier products with protected geographical origin, that contributed to the local economic development of the geographical areas of origin.
