The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has notified Member States that the current database of IP laws and treaties (WIPO Lex) is expanding to include IP judgments in companion database entitled WIPO Lex-Judgments. WIPO Lex-Judgments is expected to be released to the public by the end of 2020.
The purpose of WIPO Lex-Judgments is to enable the access to the information on judicial systems and decisions on IP by disseminating the leading IP judgments that establish precedents or persuasive interpretations. The judgments are curated directly by each Member State. WIPO Lex-Judgments will capture searchable bibliographic data of indexed judgments and provide cross-reference to national laws and international treaties. In addition, WIPO Lex-Judgments will enhance accessibility of foreign judgments through the availability of automatic machine translation tool, including WIPO Translate.
WIPO Lex-Judgments was successfully piloted with a selected number of Member States in 2019, and presented at two events organized by WIPO in 2019. The WIPO has invited interested Member States to participate in WIPO Lex-Judgments.
