Yesterday, we festively celebrated of the second century of the existence of the Intellectual Property Office, when after the opening addresses of Mr. Vladimir Maric, the Director of the IPO and Mr. Dušan Vučković, Assistant to the Minister of Justice, the awards of the World intellectual Property Organization – WIPO in five categories of creativity were handed in.

In the course of the opening address, Mr. Vladimir Maric, the Director of the IPO, emphasized that the role of IP rights in the age of modern technologies is changing and that the national offices in addition to the traditional authorities of the IP rights registration should take over greater responsibility in the formation of the IP system in their countries. Mr. Dušan Vučković, Assistant of the Minister of Justice, while congratulating the 101st anniversary of the IPO in the opening address, expressed great pleasure with the cooperation with the officials and employees in the past period concentrating on the legislative activities in the field of IP, as well as in other fields. The Assistant Minister emphasized that with regard to the European integrations that concern IP rights and rights of the business companies, in the domain and competences of the Ministry of Justice and Intellectual Property Office, according to the last report for this year, chapters 6 and 7 are the ones that got most highly evaluated by the European Commission.
During the program of handing in awards of the World Intellectual Property Organization, in the category for the inventor or group of inventors for patent that has been registered abroad and can be practically implemented , has been handed in to Miloš Stanković, Ph.D, professor and manager of the Innovation Center at the High School for Management and Economy under a title “Device for Destruction of Weeds”. This device is registered in Sweden and protected by a domestic patent. Miloš Stanković said about his invention: “This device destroys weed in the root and it does not grow again in the course of the season. While I was developing it, the point was ecology and the protection of natural environment. The focus was on ambrosia because I wished to help people, primarily in our country, where one million and five hundred thousand people suffer from that pollen allergy. I hope we shall resolve that soon.”
The WIPO award in the category WIPO IP Enterprise Trophy, in the category for domestic legal persons for the commercial implementation of the internationally registered industrial design , was awarded to the actor Mr. Nikola Kojo, the face protecting the brand “BAHUS LTD. STRIŽA” from Paraćin, who was awarded medal for the industrial design of the new solution of the 60 mm bottle for the food supplements and other soft drinks “ which was protected by internationally registered industrial design for the countries of European Union, Germany and Russia. Also, the new solution of the bottle is protected by home made industrial design. Mr. Nikola Kojo said on behalf of the company: “This year is very important for the company because it celebrates 30 years of existence. In spite of great market competition in the production of soft refreshing drinks, the company makes efforts by constant investments to achieve high level of quality of the products and to follow the global trends. Competition is exceptionally respected and looked up to as it inspires us to be even more excellent and we are aware how important it is to create a brand and protect it appropriately”.
The award – WIPO Medal for Creativity, in the category of authors of the monograph work/study exhibition with catalogue in the domain of social and humanistic sciences, has been handed in to Milan Popadić, Ph.D. , professor of the Faculty of Philosophy of Belgrade University, for the book Discrete Sound of Sand Clock – heritage and its sciences (Faculty of Philosophy of Belgrade university / Center for Museology and Hierology). Milan Popadić said about the title of the book and its meaning: “Metaphor of the sand clock is very old. All that flowing of experience and its relation to time, measuring of time, relation of heritage and science as two positions that sometimes act in synergy and sometimes in contradiction, it appeared to me that all that can be shown through the well-known literary and fine art symbolism of sand clock . When we look at it, it appears as a closed system, but that is not true. Something comes out of the sand clock. If we carefully observe the world around us, if we manage to extract us from the sound and fury that surround us, we shall hear a fine and discrete sound. In order to learn that, we must listen, first of all, to each other”.
The award “WIPO Schoolchildren`s Trophy, in the category of pupils of group of pupils from secondary school for the invention, has been awarded to Mara Raičković, pupil of the 3rd grade of the 8th Grammar School in Belgrade and the attendee of the Regional Center for Talents, Belgrade 2 for the invention under the title “Ecological importance of in –vitro multiplication of the selected kinds of mushrooms: study of the case of extracellular metabolites”. The invention of Mara Raičković belongs to the field of food bio-package. Mara Raičković spoke about the motivation for her invention and stated that from 2.12 billion tons of waste annually deposited , a modest 13% is recycled and even 63% from the total number originates from food package. For that very reason she decided to focus her interests in this direction for the solution of this kind of problem as well as the creation of bio package from some natural, non-toxic and bio-degradable material.
Ms. Maja Bađin Georgijević, manager of corporative communications “DIARY SABAC, shreholders`company Šabac”, in the name of the company received the award for the domestic legal person with the highest intensity of use of the international system for the registration of trademarks in the course of 2021 – award WIPO User`s Trophy. Maja Bađin Georgijević said on behalf of the company: “This year we celebrate 90 years of existence and we export our products on the 15 world markets. That is why the protection of our sign and practical visibility is very important to us, so that there may be no forgeries and that we may justify the trust of the consumers and the quality we maintain thanks to the domestic cattle breeders who supply us with home made milk.”
