Do you know which was the last honey protected as a honey with the geographical origin in 2023 in the Intellectual Property Office?
The “Honey from Tara Mountain” is in question to be observed as the eight honey in a line with the geographical indication registered at the Intellectual Property Office.
Apart from the “Honey from Tara Mountain” the following were registered: “Honey from Homolje Mountains”, “Lime Honey from Fruška Gora”, “Kačerski Honey”, “Honey from the Đerdap Gorge”, “Honey from Vlasina”, “Honey from Deliblato”” Honey from Rtanj Mountain”.
Do you know how many of these products have been registered at the European Union level?
On the basis of the analysis of data available at the GIview database, at the level of the European Union, 40 kinds of honey have been registered in total with the geographical indications that originate from the territories of 11 member states.
Among the member states, the producers of honey from Portugal have the advantage with the total of 9 registrations of these products, then Poland and Spain have six registrations each, from France, we find 5 registrations, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia have 3 registrations each, Greek has 2 registrations while Bulgaria, Slovakia and Luxembourg registered each one GI referring to honey.
Observing the total number of registered trademarks with the geographical indication, the Republic of Serbia could compare with the most successful EU member states in this category, like Portugal, Poland, Spain and France.
