The delegation of the Republic of Serbia has participated at the 62 series of meetings of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly of the member states. It was organized, in hybrid format, from October 4-8, 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland, at the seat of the WIPO.
On the second day of the Assembly, in the course of the introductory speeches of the representatives of the WIPO member states, the Director of the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia gave a statement on behalf of the Serbian delegation.
In his address, Mr. Vladimir Marić stated that the Republic of Serbia, on this occasion, particularly wishes to express support to the WIPO Middle Term Strategic Plan for the period 2022-2026. It expresses the role played by the IP in the modern world in a clear and complete way. This concise, direct and well- grounded strategic plan expresses the picture of the modern world – torn by controversies and deep inequalities. The IP system has the potential if not to completely remove them, then certainly to mitigate them. This year, with the assistance of the WIPO, Serbia shall start a project to help have deeper understanding of our own innovation system, its good and bad characteristics, with the final goal to improve it – in the interest of all creative entrepreneurs.
At the end of his speech, Mr. Vladimir Maric mentioned this year Symposium devoted to geographical indications, organized by the WIPO last month. „Our country was successfully represented there. WIPO virtual exhibition is, to our mind, a really nice way to promote and make visible in the whole world the national treasure of a certain country. Serbia was part of this exhibition with its traditional products”, Mr. Marić concluded his speech.
