Games industry in Serbia – growth, diversity and leading role of women
In the context of the CEBS region, Serbia deserves special attention due to its dynamic and quickly growing industry of video games. With more than 140 active studios for game development, Serbia positioned itself as one of the leading countries in the region, but also as a place that offers a variety of roads for the development of the career of professionals working in this field of creative industry.
The value that makes Serbia special is also its dedication to equal opportunities and inclusion of all kinds of experts in this field of industry. According to the data from the Serbian Games Association (SGA), even 30% of employees in the games industry are women. This number is even more impressive taking into consideration that women are positioned having one-half of leaders posts in this sector.
The SGA organizes a diverse range of programs and initiatives with a focus on women in the role of lecturers and presenters. These persons not only share their expert knowledge in this field but also represent inspirational personalities, motivating young women and girls to follow their passion towards gaming and actively participate in the industry of video games.
Through the program “SGA Empowers” support is given in continuity and greater inclusion of girls in the game development is inspired along with their participation in other industries connected to “Creative technologies”.
