In the course of the 65th serial of meetings of the WIPO General Assembly, bilateral meetings were held of the representatives of the Intellectual Property Office, on July 11 and 12, 2024 with regard to the cooperation programs of the WIPO and the Intellectual Property Office.
The issue was also the pilot project which is performed for the first time as such in the Republic of Serbia and the elaboration of the Study on the Innovation Ecosystem which is approaching the end and also the Methodology to be implemented in other member states of the WIPO.
At the meeting with the director of the Department of the Countries in Transition and Developed Countries, Director Habib Asan and his team, discussions were held about the programs of cooperation realized in the period between two sessions as well as plans for the following year. In the course of the following period, support has been planned for the elaboration of the new Intellectual Property Strategy in the Republic of Serbia. Also, it has been planned for the beginning of 2025 to keep five days training for the composition of patent applications as well as the regional workshop. It has been planned, almost traditionally, to give support through the presentations of WIPO certificates through the several events held in the Republic of Serbia for innovators and other users of the intellectual property systems.
In the capacity of the representative of the delegation of the Republic of Serbia, the director of the Office, in the course of the point 10 of the program, gave statements after the presentation of the report on the work of certain standing committees.
In the statement on the activities of the Standing Committee for Copyright and Related Rights, among other things, Mr. Vladimir Maric emphasized that for Serbia, which has recently obtained the first organization for collective realization of the rights of the fine arts artists, WIPO study “Toolkit on Artists Resale Right” is of great importance. After the statement of the work of the Standing Committee for Trademarks, Industrial Design and Indications of Geographical Origin, in the given statement, the importance of the indications of geographical origin for the preservation of the national identity was emphasized and it was stated that this IP right should be given greater importance in the framework of the activities of this committee. In the framework of the point 10 (vii), after the report of the activities of the Committee for the IP Rights Enforcement, statement was given supporting the work of this Committee as well as the activities of the Office regarding the enforcement of rights and the work of the Coordination Body for efficient protection of intellectual property rights.
