At the margins of the third day of the session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (EUIPO) on July 11, 2024, a session was held of the representatives of the delegations of the Western Balkan Countries with Mr. Joao Negrao, executive director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office EUIPO, and with the team for the international cooperation and partnership of this EU organization.
In the course of the meeting, the members of the delegations spoke about the activities of national institutions for intellectual property in the previous year, with the review of activities enforced in cooperation with the EUIPO. The EUIPO is competent for the protection of trademark, industrial design, but also for tasks of surveillance of trends in the violation of intellectual property rights at the EU level.
Mr. Vladimir Marić, Director of the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia and Mrs. Daniela Zlatić – Šutic, Asst. Director, participated at the regional meeting of cooperation with the EUIPO and presented the current issues from the domain of activities of the IPO with the plans for the following period.
Mr. Negrao emphasized that the concrete programs of cooperation are expected in the framework of the pre-accession projects of the EU for the countries of the Western Balkans in the course of 2025. The programs shall be implemented by EUIPO in the fileds of the intellectual property from its competence.
After the regional cooperation meeting with the EUIPO, a new Memorandum on Understanding and the bilateral cooperation between the EUIPO and the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia has been signed.
