World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year around the world on October 16th to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. The day was established to raise awareness about the problems of hunger and poverty in the world, but also to promote food safety, the right of all to access food and therefore the importance of innovations to enable that. This day, which has been celebrated every year in over 150 countries all over the world, has also been celebrated in Serbia since 2001 with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia.
Viewed through patent documentation, the increase of patent applications in this area is significant, which indicates the need to address the global challenges of food safety, its sustainability and responsible consumption and production for the benefit of all. This year`s World Food Day is held under the slogan “Hand in hand for better food and a better future”. The message is positive, collective, motivating, indicating cooperation, unity and shared responsibility.
