Technology transfer

The protection of the results of scientific research is one of the key preconditions for successful commercialization of inventions. The process from the genesis of the invention until its commercialization, whether through a ‘spin-out’ (company based on the commercial exploitation of technology), or licensing technology, is known as technology transfer.

As part of a project entitled “Support for the Education and Information Center of the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia,” the University of Belgrade has in co-operation with the Office founded a Technology Transfer Center (TTC). The TTC’s activities include:

  • identification,
  • protection, and
  • commercialization of the results of research performed at the University of Belgrade.

The role of the Office in the process of technology transfer is to help researchers by providing a number of services in the area of intellectual property, mainly patents, through the following activities:

Technology transfer

  • supporting inventors in the process of making data public;
  • providing information about IP opportunities;
  • assisting in identifying potential industrial (and other) partners;
  • providing advice about the economic utilization of patents;

  • enabling contacts and upgrading links between the University and industry (debates, open days, etc.);
  • establishing, initiating and updating databases of potential contacts;
  • building up a network with other technology transfer centers in and outside the country.

Strengthening the capacity

  • assistance in projecting and introducing or revising existing knowledge and policies of managing intellectual property at the University;
  • assistance in drafting institutional policy and internal regulations and procedures connected with intellectual property rights (from making the invention public to licensing).
  • provision of general information about the protection procedure;
  • data base searches (prior art, etc.);
  • control of technological and commercial services, search of online databases (prior art searches);
