In the full festive hall of the IPO, today, a seminar was organized under a title “Trademark and Industrial Design – Trump Cards for Successful Business”. Apart from the lecturers from the IPO, for the first time in the framework of the public seminar, the lecturers were also the representatives of two holders of rights, the companies Pionir and BUCK from Belgrade. The Seminar was attended by over 60 participants including businessmen, designers, lawyers as well as professors of the Faculty of Applied Arts.
Ms. Doris Markovic from the Pionir and Ms. Jelena Karalejic from the BUCK, gave their experiences with regard to the choice of sign for the trademark protection and choice of subjects for the protection of industrial design. Speaking about the use of trademarks and industrial design in conducting business, they emphasized the importance of searching the data base of trademarks and industrial design before initiating protection procedure. Apart from the characteristic ability to be recognized in the market, the following advantages of protection were emphasized: better position of stalls at the international fairs (BUCK), cooperation with foreign partners, domination at the market, possibilities of undertaking measures for the enforcement of right in case of infringement.
The representatives of the companies spoke about the conflicts with other legal subjects with regard to IP rights. It has been emphasized that foreign companies are holders of so called strong brands and they pay lots of attention to the activities of their competition and undertake timely measures in cases of infringement (ex: letter of warning, legal suit for the violation of right, temporary injunction).
Professors stated their experience in the cases of cooperation with industry (public announcements for ideal solutions) and the importance of just arrangement of relationship between the parties.
