THE SECOND BEKOP CONFERENCE HELD IN THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE

On Thursday, November 8, 2018 in the framework of the students project BEKOP – Belgrade Conference of Lawyers, in the Intellectual Property Office, due to the overwhelming interest, the Conference “Intellectual Property Rights” has been repeated.

The Conference was opened by Mr. Vladimir Maric, Director of the IPO, by addressing the participants speaking about the importance of the intellectual property rights, as the immaterial property, both for natural persons who are the authors of various creations of the human mind, as well as for the business companies. After the introductory speech, the professor of the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, Mr. Slobodan Markovic, PhD, had the presentation concerning copyright, and among other issues he underlined the challenges facing the authors and national legislations with the emergence of new technologies and new ways of economic utilization of copyright protected works.

In the next two sessions, the experts from the IPO presented the conditions and procedures for the protection of patent and trademark with the examples of the IPO practice. The representative of the business company “Šlarafija” was next, discussing the use of patent in doing business, while the representative of the Lawyers Office “Zivko Mijatovic and Partners” presented the protection of trademark after the registration, when commercialized on the market. The last two sessions were devoted to the protection of the indications of the geographical origin and industrial design and were held by the IPO experts. The aim of the conference was to let the students who applied to participate, from the Faculty of Law and other faculties, to get acquainted with specific legal framework in the field of intellectual property and the IPO procedures.
